Hi — I’m Dr. Matthew Traver, a licensed physical therapist who works with people dealing with chronic and recurring low back pain.
Most of the people who find me have already tried a lot: physical therapy, chiropractic care, injections, stretching, strengthening — sometimes all of it. And despite doing “the right things,” their pain keeps coming back.
That pattern is what led me to change how I work.
Why I do this work differently
Early in my career, I was trained — like most clinicians — to focus on structure: discs, joints, muscles, and imaging findings.
But over time, something didn’t add up.
I saw people with significant MRI findings who moved well and lived without pain. And I saw others with “mild” imaging who were afraid to bend, lift, or trust their body.
The difference wasn’t damage. It was how the nervous system was responding.
That realization changed everything about how I help people recover.
My approach
I don’t treat backs as broken parts that need fixing. I help people understand why their body is protecting them — and how to gradually restore confidence, control, and natural movement without forcing or pushing through pain.
The work is calm, intentional, and tailored to the individual. There’s no rushing and no generic protocols.
Just clarity, guidance, and a process that respects how the body actually heals.
What to expect
When you work with me, the goal isn’t just relief. It’s helping you: feel safe moving again, stop organizing your life around flare-ups, and trust your body in everyday situations — sitting, lifting, working, exercising.
That’s what lasting change looks like.
If you’re considering reaching out
You don’t need to be certain. You don’t need to “commit” to anything. A conversation is simply a place to make sense of what’s been going on and decide what makes sense for you.
